About This Project

Construction of a 10 storey apartment building in Wellington CBD, comprising 73 one-bedroom fully self contained apartments and a retail space on the ground floor. Arrow constructed a neighbouring apartment building for the same client in 2011, however the second tower has a distinctively different aesthetic. Smart building techniques enabled us to construct the building in less than 12 months, for example the use of a climbing formwork system that enabled the central reinforced concrete core walls to be built from the ground to the roof in just 12 weeks.

 

Unique Aspects

The building canti-levers over an existing car ramp into an adjoining property that remained in use during construction. Significant value engineering during the early contractor involvement stage enabled us to produce valuable reductions in cost and programme. For example, the substructure consists of bored piles with depths between 16 and 26 metres and a structure of prefabricated structural steel frames with composite steel, concrete reinforced floor slabs and shearcore.
