Arrow 6+6 Adventure Race a HUGE Success

Over the years, Arrow International has become well known for our sense of adventure and our history of competing in all things outdoors.

By merging work and play, Arrow have shared with their clients, consultants and sub-contractors adventures that some would consider extreme, for example deer hunting in the Hollyford mountains to tramping through the beautiful flora and fauna of the native Fiordland national park.

Reigniting that vision, Nick Hamlin, General Manager Southern, seized the opportunity to try something new.  The Arrow 6+6 Adventure Race was born and held over the weekend of the 29-30 April in Southland.  The event was an exciting and challenging multisport team event with an impressive turnout of 27 four-person teams.

Teams gathered to compete in the two-day multisport event held that started on the outskirts of Invercargill and finished at Sandy Point.  Participants travelled from Otago, Christchurch and Auckland.  Whilst there are many adventure races around the country, this was the first of its kind to be held in Southland.

Arrow initially approached Southland Triathlon and the Multisport Club in early 2016.  From this, the event planning accelerated, resulting in the creation of the entry level multisport event in Southland.  The event was a mix of mountain biking, kayaking, running, trekking, orienteering ,  paint ball shooting and much more.  Due to the diversity of the event, many hours were spent scouting out locations and planning for what was truly an exhilarating event.

The turnout for such a new event has been incredible and there is obviously a keen interest out there for this type of adventure race.  It was great to be a part of the journey and to also be part of a team competing in the challenge was extremely satisfying and enjoyable.  Planning is already underway for next year!” – Nick Hamlin, Arrow International.
