Ingenia Communities Group (ICG) partnered with Arrow to undertake major refurbishments and seismic strengthening on three of their Willis Street, Wellington student accommodation buildings. McKenzie Building was completely stripped back to its concrete frame and seismically upgraded to 80% of NBS. Arrow then completed the fitout of 12,500m² into student accommodation, common areas, self service kitchens, communal dining and commercial kitchen facilities. Cumberland House was fully refurbished and seismically strengthened to 70% of NBS. Education House was completely refurbished.
The works on both Education House and Cumberland House were undertaken to a very tight 11 week programme. McKenzie Building was handed over eight weeks ahead of programme. Use of BIM modelling to provide clash detection between all building services and structural elements, to ensure that progress on site was not impacted. Extensive stakeholder interaction with both the client and its tenants, to ensure that the project outcomes aligned with their specific accommodation and operational needs.
