Massey University engaged Arrow to construct the first onsite accommodation facility at their Albany campus. The new 292 bed complex is made up of seven separate buildings, three of which contain dorm rooms (210 beds total), three which contain a mix of apartments and studio apartments (82 bedrooms) and a separate social amenities building.
The project was delivered to a tight 13 month programme to ensure the complex was ready to open for Semester 1 2015.
The buoyant Auckland construction market added significant challenge due to long lead times for key items such as precast concrete. Delays created by late arrival of materials meant that the construction programme was compressed and there were often multiple trades working simultaneously – in the final weeks of construction it was not uncommon for 200 plus people to be working on site at one time. Significant coordination was required to manage the works safely in such a congested environment.
