To keep up with the demand for Aged Care facilities in Wanaka construction has started on the first of three stages for a new aged care apartment facility.
The two-storey building is being built to a very high specification and each apartment will have amazing views of the surrounding mountains and landscape. It has been designed to be sympathetic to its surroundings and will contain natural materials like local stone and timber in the finishing.
80% of the apartments have been pre-sold.
Arrow is working as Design and Build contractor. The design has been completed and construction started in late July 2017.
The apartments will contain “pod bathrooms” that are being built in Christchurch by Sapone – a modular construction company. They will then be transported to site and slotted into place. This will reduce construction waste by approximately 30%.
The entire building is being constructed from steel frames rather than timber as a more cost effective solution. The steel frames and trusses will also be built in Christchurch.
The off-site manufacturing will save time and alleviate the shortage of sub-contractors in Wanaka.
The team are working within an operational environment. There are villas, a community centre and a hospital nearby so all works are being planned and managed to minimise disruption.
